Storage room – painted!

It's all done!!

Remember this is where the built in desk used to be?

My sister and I were a little too chicken on our colour selection… I really wish we went a shade darker on the grey, right now it looks a little purple… Oh well, we still have the rest of the house to paint!! Including the fence outside.

Don't remember what this room used to look like? Well, I don't really want to…

THE PANTS – lavender sachets

I made them as a birthday present for a coworker… and I think he likes them! THE PANTS is kind of an inside joke at work, I don't even remember how the joke started anymore but everyone always laugh like crazy when someone says "pants." We are all so mature.

I designed the illustrations on the computer, printed them out, transferred them on linen and embroidered away. There might be more in the making… it was a fun little project! And I wanna a pair for my own closet now… maybe it'll say "skirts" this time.

Storage room - before

So this is the big project me and my sister are working on… reorganizing the storage room.

The room used to be my bedroom when I was in high school… It's in the basement and it's the smallest room in the entire house, excluding bathrooms. I always had a thing for tiny spaces, I am not sure why. Ever since I moved out, my parents have been using it as a storage room.

I think it's pretty big for a storage room… yet my parents still manage to run out of space to pile stuff. There are many reasons for that of course but the main reason is that they don't have a system of storing and retrieving (they just pile boxes on top of boxes without labeling anything). There are no boxes in the photos because Lisa and I removed everything prior to the photo shoot… and that's about all anyone needs to know…

We even managed to take down the built-in desk that was nailed to the wall. All the nail holes and unevenness have been patched and sanded.

Next weekend: get ready to prime.

Feeling Spoiled!

Got a very special delivery this weekend. I am still drooling all over the books! There are three books in total, two sewing and one knitting. I can't wait to start making… but that will have to wait till I am done drooling and can actually get focused enough to figure out how.

This was the page that sold me the book, those two cute skirts. Too bad I almost never wear skirts…

The second sewing book is on organizers, zakka style! I got the book as part of the never ending organizing I try to do…

Last but not least… I think this is probably my favourite. I love pretty much every single project in there and there's a really good range of projects too. From sweaters to leg warmers (I don't have one yet!) to knitted brooch (also don't have one yet!).

Okay, time to stop drooling and get some making action going!

Confidence or Ignorance?

So I took a Sewing Machine Essentials class at the Workroom 2 weeks ago. Where I learned the anatomy of a sewing machine, how to wind a bobbin, threading the machine and the art of breathing. Under the direction of the very kind Karyn, we made a simple envelope pillow cover (pictures later, cause this post is not about the pillow!).

Okay, so after my pillow making accomplishment… I thought to myself, well, this whole sewing business isn't as scary as I thought it is! Let's make something bigger!! So I decided that I would make a quilt and quilt along with Melanie over at Fabric, Family, Fun

The quilt top came together pretty quickly… even tho the squares didn't quite lineup completely, I am just happy that I am sewing. Note to self: higher standards next time plz.

I bullied my sister into basting the quilt layers with me last weekend. I thought it was a lot of fun… and I got to spend some *cough angry cough* quality time with Lisa. =D

So this whole week, I have been trying to actually quilt my quilt and it hasn't gone to well. *big sigh* Look at this mess!! I guess knowing how to thread a bobbin doesn't quite translate into I-can-make-a-quilt.

2009!

The first post in 2009! Also my first blog post. I thought it would be a good way to kick start the year… tho I think most bloggers posted their 2009 greetings 2 weeks ago. I am running a little late here… well, it's better late than never!

I think 2009 is gonna be a great year! I had some up and downs in 2008 and I plan to leave them in 2008. I have made a list of things I want to try/do/learn in 2009. The list is a little all over the place right now but I will fix that and post it on the blog, so I can check back and see how I am doing throughout the year.
